Hosted by April Artist-In-Residence Ofelia Marquez, these series of workshops will focus on making wood blocks and woodblock prints aboard Side Street’s Mobile Classrooms at our HQ in Pasadena. Thinking about animal narratives and how they link to our personal life, we will be making woodblock prints that tell a non linear story in a few simple images. The images will be simple graphic textures, shapes, fragments of the animal itself and/or ourselves.
All Ages Welcome!
April 13th: Metaphors
Attendees will explore how shape and color affect how we see images and inspire feelings. The woodblocks made during the workshop will be used to create multi-colored prints.
Ofelia Marquez is the second artist to participate in “Nourished” a curatorial project inspired by Dominique Moody’s “Our Garden of Dreams,” a mobile community garden completed at the end of 2018. Artists were asked to engage with the theme of nourishment over the course of a one month residency culminating in workshops and an exhibition of work intended to nourish the body, creativity, nature, identity, and community.
