Sang The Coyote To The Blood Moon: Positive and Negative Space

  • Side Street Projects (map)

Hosted by April Artist-In-Residence Ofelia Marquez, these series of workshops will focus on making woodblocks and woodblock prints aboard Side Street’s mobile classrooms at our HQ in Pasadena. Thinking about animal narratives and how they link to our personal life, we will be making woodblock prints that tell a non linear story in a few simple images. The images will be simple graphic textures, shapes, fragments of the animal itself and/or ourselves.

All Ages Welcome!

April 6th: Positive and Negative Space

Attendees will get comfortable making woodblocks, carving repetitive shapes into pieces of wood. And at the end of the workshop, folks will use the woodblock they have made to make black and white prints.

April 13th: Metaphors

 April 20th: Textile

April 27th: Visual Stories

Ofelia Marquez is the second artist to participate in “Nourished” a curatorial project inspired by Dominique Moody’s “Our Garden of Dreams,” a mobile community garden completed at the end of 2018. Artists were asked to engage with the theme of nourishment over the course of a one month residency culminating in workshops and an exhibition of work intended to nourish the body, creativity, nature, identity, and community.
