Artist-in-residence Heather Hilliard Bond's first phase of their project, A Space For Me (Creating Safe Outdoor Places for Our Teens), will culminate at the La Pintoresca Teen Education Center (LPTEC) during the 28th Annual Family Fun Day on May 25th from 11 am to 3 pm with the unveiling of a mural, designed and painted by teens and community members, and a hands-on art workshop.
We will officially reveal the mural at 11:30 am, followed by a community art workshop painting personal planters starting at 12:30 pm. During the workshop, participants will paint small terracotta pots and plant succulents to take home. To kick off phase two of the project, participants can also paint bigger pots that will stay at the teen center to beautify the space.
Heather is now in the works to move forward with the second phase and third phase of the project, which involve creating a garden that teens can care for and take pride in, and upcycling furniture, to bring new life and meaning to old pieces.
“A Space For Me” aims to create a safe and inspiring outdoor space for teenagers to feel a sense of belonging, connection, and harmony. Heather’s vision brings together art, nature, and community to create a space that inspires and uplifts.
