Mariah Cochran: Weaving Care and Connection through Braiding Circles
Multidisciplinary artist Mariah Cochran's residency, titled Weaving Care and Connection through Braiding Circles, aims to engage participants in a reflective relationship with nature, our bodies, and how we can care for them through the practice of braiding. The project will explore braiding as a sacred practice in Black and Indigenous communities, a somatic experience, and an art form that is inherently rooted in community and connection.
Mariah is currently developing a series of community-based workshops that will facilitate a space to share personal stories and cultural histories related to braiding, healing, care, and connection. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and share braiding techniques while strengthening community bonds.
This residency will culminate in the Spring of 2025. Stay tuned for more information on the development of the project.
This project is funded by the Pasadena Community Foundation.
