Simone Fujita & Kelly Besser discussed DIY spaces and DIY archiving. They presented basic tips for archival preservation. 

BIO

Chicas Rockeras S.E.L.A. (South East Los Angeles) is a day camp where girls ages 8-17 explore the joys and challenges of collaborative music-making while guided by inspirational female mentors. In one week, campers form bands, write an original song and perform live at a local music venue in Southeast Los Angeles

Simone Fujita is Liaison Librarian + Outreach Coordinator at ArtCenter College of Design’s Library in Pasadena, CA. She is ArtCenter Library's unofficial zine librarian, managing its circulating zine collection and zine programming efforts. Simone is also the Zine Project Manager for LIS Microaggressions and serves as Chair of the Southern California chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS). In addition to zine librarianship, her career interests include activist librarianship, oral history, community documentation, critical cataloging, and art informatics.

Kelly Besser works as a processing archivist and provides reference services for UCLA Library Special Collections. In addition to UCLA, Besser has processed collections for the African American Firefighter Museum, the Mayme A. Clayton Library and Museum, the Yosemite National Park Service Archives, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Tom of Finland Foundation. In 2006, she co-founded The Miracle Bookmobile, a donation-driven community-based project that redistributes free literature in Los Angeles and Oakland. Besser holds an MLIS with an Archival Studies specialization from UCLA.
