Who’s donating books to Bookmeat? Who’s NOT donating is probably a shorter answer! We’ve assembled over 200 of the artworld’s best & brightest, including Swiss curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, the “most powerful figure in the international art world.” Also on board are 2008 Whitney Biennial Artists Edgar Arceneaux, Ry Rocklen, Rodney McMillian, James Welling, Walead Beshty, Fritz Haeg, Alice Könitz, and Mario Ybarra, Jr. Which brings us to one of LA’s most favorite and beloved artists — 2009 MacArthur Fellow Mark Bradford. We’re all so darn proud of Mark, and we’re really thrilled that he’s part of Bookmeat. So, what book moves a MacArthur Genius? Come to Bookmeat and find out!

Still can’t get over that this is even possible… we just milled this semester’s worth of lumber for the Woodworking Bus courtesy of that big yellow thing in the sky (and 12 panels and 4 batteries). For those of you not in the Pasadena area today… it be hot, like really hot. Somehow, we managed to run the AC and the table saw simultaneously. I think we’re breaking some laws of physics here or something. All in a day’s work @ Side Street Projects. See for yourself:

Join Jon & Emily tomorrow (Saturday the 12th) from 11:30am – 12:30pm on the northwest corner of Brookside Park (@ Arroyo Blvd. & Seco St.) to view the Armory’s Bruce Nauman skywriting project.
Click here for a map. The viewing is free. Oh, and we’ll be making plastic bottle planters. You can make one too! Just look for us in the Brookside Park parking lot. We’re in Lot “I” – look for the Side Street pick up and the orange canopies. Click here to view the Facebook event, with all the details.
Happy 20th birthday to the Armory!

So Doug MacCash, the the art critic from the New Orleans Times Picayune, came out to visit us and The Armadillo on a crazy hot & stormy Sunday afternoon. Doug shot this awesome little video… far beyond our current in-house video-editing kung-fu (pardon all the hyphens).

What a day in D.C.! Postcard perfect weather. Confused tourists. Art students. Lobbyists. Teachers. Etc. This video includes our first official “tour” of The Armadillo itself, including the planting walls, composting drum, and Armadillo butt comparisons (very scientific).

Our first official tour stop. The weather finally cleared and we got down to some serious “make your own planters out of recycled material” goodness. Special thanks to the Herring Run Watershed Association for hosting us!
Check out the little neighborhood girl at the end of the video… priceless.
